Photo-Nuclear Science

Three pillars of the so-called Extreme Light Infrastructure (ELI) are currently constructed in Romania, Hungary, and the Czech Republic. ELI is a European infrastructure project aimed to strengthen infrastructure and economy in new EU member states by implementation of these forefront research facilities. Researchers of the Institute for Nuclear Physics are in significantly involved in the planning and installation of experiments at the nuclear physics branch (ELI-NP) of the project near Bucharest, specifically with respect to development and use of a highly-brilliant and -intense polarized gamma beam and laser-matter interactions. The 10 petawatt lasers and the gamma beam of ELI-NP will surpass the presently best available facilities by an order of magnitude and will open new research path for
