RTG 1657 Radiation Biology
The research training group RTG 1657 “Radiation Biology” is a collaboration of the TU Darmstadt with the GSI and Frankfurt University. The aim is a deeper understanding of radiation biological processes, in tandem with a comprehensive educational program in this research area. Herein focus is laid on experiments on molecular as well as on a cellular level, in which the response of tissue, and ultimately the entire organism, on radiation is explored. This application of radiation is of special importance for tumor therapy. Heavy-ion beams for this research are delivered by the accelerator complex of GSI to dedicated experimental stations, which serves to investigate the effects of heavy-ion therapy from the molecular level to the entire organism.
